After a long break…….

Well actually it’s been more than a while, since I posted on this site but I’m planning to rectify that now.

Life has taken over somewhat with personal and health issues, for the last three years, some lovely, happy events but some family problems which have been very difficult and my art has had to take backstage for a while.

This year has been a fresh start for me, starting with a new commitment to myself to make time for my creativity, as it’s so integral to my well being, which I’ve neglected for too long.

I have been helping on Louise Fletchers Find Your Joy course since September, which was followed in the New Year by her completely new course Momentum, which I’ve been doing myself, it’s teaching all of us to be more independent in our approach to our art and answering our own questions. Coincidentally I also signed up for a course with textile artist and mentor Claire Benn, not to learn any specific technique, it’s more how to take myself and my work more seriously and elevate it to the next level, so they complimented each other perfectly. Both courses have certainly had me reflecting on what direction is the correct one for me, I’ve done lots of journalling and I’ve decided to share some of my thoughts in my Studio Notes to make myself accountable, plus it might resonate and inspire others.

My overall aim for my work in 2025 is to develop my personal narrative to my family textile treasures and ephemera in an authentic way, both in terms its my emotional significance and material connection to previous generations of my family. I’ve been fascinated with these items over the years but this body of work will be a comprehensive culmination of years of studying and reflecting on my connection and love of my textile treasures (hopefully).

I will next be journalling on how best to select what to work with first, possibly not using the actual items themselves, rather to select those which are still available, exploring how to transform the often overlooked, mundane items into pieces of art.

I’m excited to be starting this new work and hope you might find your own inspiration from my approach to my inherited sewing ephemera or at least be reminded of your own mums, Granmas or aunties with love..

I am an artist who previously worked with cloth and thread, so I have a good knowledge of design, I am now exploring painting to extend my skills, following on from a course called CVP with Nicholas Wilton. I am now exploring my own visual language using the principles that I have learnt on the way and translating this into my art practice.
